Current Banknote Series (2012-present)

'Distinctively Malaysia'

The fourth and latest series of Malaysian banknotes draws its inspiration from elements which distinctively define the country's diverse culture, heritage and nature. Themed 'Distinctively Malaysia', this series of Malaysian banknotes features traditional expressions in the art and craft, natural wonders, flora and fauna, economy and tradition.

The fourth series of Malaysian banknotes started with the issuance of the RM50 banknote in July 2009. Other denominations of RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20, and RM100 were issued in June 2012.

Banknotes of this series were signed by four different BNM Governors, namely, Tan Sri Dr. Zeti Akhtar Aziz (2000-2016), Tan Sri Muhammad bin Ibrahim (2016-2018), Tan Sri Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus (2018-2023), and Dato' Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour (2023-present).
