Going Digital with Confidence in an Innovative Landscape
| The use of digital payments has accelerated in recent years as customers seek faster, cheaper, and more seamless modes of payments. These benefits are not only being enjoyed in the domestic market but have also extended to cross-border payments with ASEAN being a hive of activity. Alongside this development, the risks posed by fraud and cyber threats on digital payment transactions have also heightened. The session aims to dissect the direction for digitalisation in payments over the coming years and what more can be done by financial institutions and authorities. Panel Session 4: Monetary Policy
Demystifying Monetary Policy: Key Considerations and Challenges
| Over the past year, global central banks have sharply tightened their monetary policies to address the high and persistent inflationary pressures, following the strong recovery in labour markets, strengthening demand and elevated cost pressures. In doing so, the key challenge is balancing the objectives of price stability and supporting growth amid lingering uncertainties, such as the ongoing geopolitical conflicts and fragilities in the global financial system. Complicating the picture, it is being heavily debated whether higher interest rates is the suitable tool in addressing price pressures, or even whether they are exacerbating burdens faced by the public. | |
