Coin Design

The design description of the 50th Anniversary of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) commemorative coins is as follows:

  • Obverse Side of the Coin

The circumference of the coin depicts images of the nation's endangered animal species such as the tiger, rhinoceros, tapir, elephant and turtle.  The centre of the coin features the image of the forests which is important for the survival of the wildlife. This also represents WWF's efforts in protecting the environment, the preservation of the endangered wildlife and the conservation of the forest habitat in Malaysia. The words "50th Anniversary" is to commemorate 50 years of WWF's efforts in addressing the environmental issues, while the years "1961-2011" signifies the period the WWF's establishment.

  • Reverse Side of the Coin

The centre of the coin depicts both the registered trademark and logo of the organisation which are "WWF" and the Panda.  The words "Bank Negara Malaysia" which is the issuing authority of the commemorative coin appears on the top circumference of the coin. The denomination of the coin appears on the lower circumference. The image and silhouette of the Azlanii Rafflesia flower which is unique to Malaysia is featured on the left side of the coin.
