On 25 April 2011, Governor Zhou Xiaochuan of the People's Bank of China and Governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz of Bank Negara Malaysia signed an agreement on the establishment of a representative office by Bank Negara Malaysia in Beijing.

The establishment of the Bank Negara Malaysia representative office in Beijing will contribute to further strengthen cooperation with the People's Bank of China. The representative office will also serve as an important liaison point with China's regulators and market players as well as to facilitate the conduct of market research on China's economic and financial developments.

The Beijing representative office is the third overseas representative office established by Bank Negara Malaysia, in addition to its offices in London and New York.
