BNM Launches JPJ's 75th Anniversary Commemorative Coins

Bank Negara Malaysia announced today the issuance of commemorative coins in conjunction with the 75th Anniversary of Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ).
Launched by YBhg. Dato' Zailani Hj.Hashim, Director-General of Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Malaysia Malaysia, the commemorative coins will be issued in two denominations:
1. Coloured Sterling Silver Commemorative Coin (proof)
A coin made of sterling silver with 92.5 purity measuring 31 grams in weight. It has a face value of RM10 to be sold at RM253 a piece. The mintage quantity is 1,000 pieces.
2. Nordic Gold Brilliant Uncirculated (B.U) Commemorative Coin
A coin made of copper and several other metals measuring 8.5 grams in weight. It has a face value of RM1 to be sold at RM13.20 a piece. The mintage quantity is 10,000 pieces.
Marzunisham Omar, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia said, "We are pleased to issue these specially designed commemorative coins to mark the occasion of JPJ's diamond anniversary. These designs uniquely capture the essence of JPJ's proud heritage and history. It also celebrates JPJ's passion and commitment to road safety in Malaysia."
Coin design
The design of the commemorative coins is as follows:

Obverse
The text "JABATAN PENGANGKUTAN JALAN" is inscribed around the upper circumference of the coin. The image of a road tax sticker with JPJ 75 plate number highlights the main function of JPJ in regulating the registration and licensing of motor vehicles. Images of a steering wheel with the JPJ logo in the centre depicts the control and the direction of the agency to move forward.

Reverse
The text "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" as the issuing authority of numismatic coins is featured at the upper circumference of the coin. The official logo of the JPJ75 celebration is featured in the middle against the background of a circuit board design, which symbolises JPJ's move towards modernisation and digitalisation. The official slogan of the celebration "DIGITALISASI MELESTARI INTEGRITI" is placed under the celebration logo and the face value of 10 RINGGIT and 1 RINGGIT are inscribed at the lower circumference of the respective coin.
These commemorative coins are also available for sale in a set of 2. The set of 2 is priced at RM308 each inclusive of 10% Sales and Services Tax (SST). Each set comprises of one coloured sterling silver proof coin and one Nordic gold proof coin. A total of 1,000 sets are available for purchase. Please refer to Appendix I for the detailed specifications of these commemorative coins.
Sale of commemorative coins
To provide a fair opportunity for members of the public to buy these limited edition coins, there will be a purchase limit of a Set of 2, a coloured silver coin (proof) and up to five Nordic gold (B.U) coins. In the event of oversubscription, balloting will take place. Further information on ordering, payment and delivery will be made available to the public through an announcement via BNM website on 17 November 2021.
